Thanks for coming to my site and checking out my blog. The first blog post is always the most difficult, so I thought I’d just jump right in…
My name is Annalyse, I’m a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor, Associate in New Mexico. I had a professor once tell me that it takes FIVE years to develop your professional identity. I’m currently on year two… I’d say I’m well on my way to finding myself within the career field of therapy and counseling. I’ve found a great passion for treating teenagers and families. They say (professionals in the field) that you treat the age/client that you struggled with most personally. I can only speak for myself when I say, this couldn’t be more true! My teen and young adult years were the roughest. I find I have the greatest passion for topics related to this stage of the life cycle and hope to start a practice treating teens and young adults. However… my practice will focus on high performing athletes. If I could narrow my life to two passions (beyond family) it would be mental health and sports! Two areas that go hand in hand.
Athletes face some of the greatest challenges, pressures, and expectations, but sports can be therapeutic for many. Sports and exercise help us overcome mental health struggles, feel connected to others in team and community, and provide opportunity to develop important skills for socializing.
I’m looking forward to seeing my plans turn into action and sharing that journey with you!
